Taking The Technology Applications Exam EC-12 (242).

Hi all this is my first post for this test. I am currently teaching computer classes underneath a non Tech App certification. But now my school is requiring me to get certified in Tech Apps or in Computer Science. I’ve talked to numerous other computer teachers and they’ve told me how hard to Compu Sci one is. So I’d rather take the Tech Apps exam for certification.

Update: I am in the progress of building a study guide to help you on this exam. Please click the following link if interested: https://atomic-temporary-109844966.wpcomstaging.com/technology-applications-242-study-guide/ .

I’ve registered, and have already done a practice round of the test provided by Pearson(http://www.tx.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/TX242_PrepMaterials.html).

I’ve scored 26 out of 50, definitely need to study and prep more for this certification. Hope to share my journey through that with you, to help you take it.

Update: I honestly felt these practice questions from tx.nesinc.com were misleading and did not put me in the right mindset needed for the exam.

Hello. I just found your blog. Have you already passed the test
? If not keep going at it. You can do it !
On the other hand, I need Some advice. I am certified to teach elementary education But I cannot secure a position yet since I was away from full time teaching for about three years. I Have decided to get certified in EC to 12 technology applications.
I live in the state of Texas. I have not practice the skills necessary or feel like I don’t know much about this area. I was wondering if someone could pass the test By just reading one of those study guides. I’m not sure about if this would be enough because Technology has a hands-on experience. I have found out a program where they would teach me the necessary skills to pass the test but its very expensive. It’s a local university near Houston Texas. Please let me know what you think

Hey Erick! Thanks for the motivation. It took me a few times but I eventually passed.

If I were you, I wouldn’t waste my money and time on that program, if you’re just trying to pass this exam to teach it.

It does require some experience, but I think if you took it a couple of times, you would eventually pass.

If I were you, I’d take the test, see how you do and what you know. Definitely study before hand, use our study guide, and take a free course online by Khan academy, or pay for a cheap Udemy course. Spend your money for taking the exam, which is $118 a try.

      Best of luck!

Thank you so much for your feedback. Guess what, I interviewed for a charter school. They were looking for someone to teach help with Technology on campus. I got the job even before taking or studying for the TEXES!! Now I am in emergency mode and I want to learn and prepare for the TEXES. I guess I will learn many of the things I will need to feel confident. The principal asked me if I could help her improve the school’s website for example. I was honest with her and clarified that I did not have experience doing that but that I was smart, and I could learn technology very fast and easily and that If I was give training I would be so excited to share it with students and teachers. They still hired me so I wanted to ask you how would you go about this and what you recommend for me to polish my skills. Of course, I am not illiterate with computers and know the day to day use of Google, the internet, educational websites, etc but nothing such as web creation or some of the higher grade skills that I am sure you were tested on the TEXES. Any advise would be extremely helpful or anything you want to share please. This is my email in case you want to send me anything for which I will extremely grateful

I wish I did, but as of right now, I do not. I do plan to take it sometime this school year, but not anytime soon. I’ll reply back again to your comment when I start studying for it.

Hi Lindsey. I am sorry to hear that you have been so close to getting that 240. Yes, I believe this guide will help you, especially adding more exam questions to your arsenal. If you do not pass this next time with my guide, I will refund your purchase. Just send me a screenshot of your failing score and date you took it. I’m here to help you be successful, because I know how hard it is to come so close to a passing score and not get the 240(at least until my third try). Best of luck

Hello Lindsey, what material did you study to pass your exam. I have taken that exam several times scoring 200, 238, 237 and 235. I am not sure what to focus on to pass this exam.
