Hi all! First of all, I hope all of you are okay right now. These are very different times we’re facing.
Secondly, I would just like to share, as a teacher what we’re facing right now, and some positives of being a teacher right now. Especially a Computer Science teacher, lol.
A positive is that most if not all teachers I know right now, are still being paid. But it comes with strings attached. I am having to work remotely, setup everything at my house, instruct my students via email and Schoology. Not to mention watching my own kids.
I will say though, that I am very thankful and blessed to still have a job and to still be getting a paycheck. I do not take this for granted. I have a lot of server friends who are out of work right now, and I know they are going through some difficult times right now. I truly feel for them.
There are also advantages of being a Tech teacher. I honestly feel like the shark in deep waters right now. Having my own computer lab and doing everything on the computer before this pandemic broke out, gives me a huge head start with all the other teachers trying to catch-up. I honestly think my boss is worried that I have too much free time on my hands, lol. But I am also using my time to help other teachers learn how to use Schoology, as well as how to setup a Google Voice to contact students, so they don’t have to use their own personal number.
It’s been hard and challenging for all us teachers, but we are still blessed with what we are currently being given.
Best of luck!
